The Robin

Our friend, Alison, wrote to me that she remembers visiting us not long after we moved into Kenneth Crescent and you, Martin, were very reluctant to let her explore our back garden because the robin was out there having "special time" and should have the garden all to himself - our robin.  Every year the robin, or successors of that robin in our minds, comes to nest in our little garden and becomes more emboldened every year - even standing poised on our patio looking in at us.  Maybe they like us because you provided bird feeders and assiduously kept them filled with seed.  I must not forget to do that now.

When we put up a small gazebo out in the garden during lockdown to have tea outside with visiting family and friends, the resident robin at first protested very loudly from the magnolia tree, so you moved it further away from the hedge where it nested to allow easier access.  The robin and its family seemed to appreciate that, flying under the bunting into their nest.
